EFFECT OF SOCIAL MEDIA ADDICTION ON IN-SCHOOL ADOLESCENTS’ ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AND SEXUAL BEHAVIOURS

ABSTRACT
This study investigated the effect of social media addiction on the academic achievement and sexual behaviours of in-school adolescents. Three null hypotheses guided the study. The study adopted an ex-post-facto research design to determine how social media influence in-school adolescents’ academic achievement and sexual behaviours. The sample for the study was made up of 314 first year students of the Faculty of Education, University of Nigeria Nsukka. Mean ratings, simple percentage and t-test were used for data analyses. It was revealed that social media addiction significantly affect students’ academic achievement and sexual behaviour negatively.
